Women have served in many capacities in the United States military since the inception of our Army in 1775 (one year prior to the signing of the Declaration of Independence). More recently, as of February 2017, women are now serving in ground combat units in all of the branches of the armed forces. For so many countries, to include the United States, serving in combat is often more a matter of cultural readiness and societal norms, independent of her competence or capability.
